What does ultrasound involve?
Ultrasound involves the visualization of body structures recording
the reflections or echoes of pulses of ultrasonic waves directed
into the tissues. Exams include abdominal organs, pelvic organs,
blood vessels, the heart and fetal evaluation. Ultrasound
is also used to guide biopsy needles and other minimally invasive
procedures. Cross-sectional images (slices) are evaluated
by a physician to diagnose the presence or absence of disease
or an abnormality.
