Center for Wound Care
Halifax Regional Hospital’s Center for Wound Care is a comprehensive outpatient center dedicated to the treatment of difficult-to-heal ulcers and wounds. Some of the indications for wound therapy include:
- Pressure ulcers
- Neuropathic ulcers
- Ischemic ulcers
- Venous insufficiency
- Traumatic wounds
- Surgical wounds
- Vasculitis
- Burns
- Peristomal skin irritations
- Other chronic, non-healing wounds
During the course of treatment, the center’s team of specialized healthcare professionals works with the patient’s primary/referring physician to evaluate and implement an personalized plan of care.
Treatment components
The Center for Wound Care's team of specialized physicians, nurses and technicians, will plan a course of treatment focusing on a variety components including:
- Debridement
- Nutrition assessment and counseling
- Education and prevention
- Special needs including beds, mattresses, seat cushions or footwear
- Wound and blood cultures or biopsies
- Antibiotic management program
- Compression therapy
The Center for Wound Care is located on the first floor of the Physicians Pavilion on the campus of Halifax Regional Hospital. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please call 434.517.3910 for more information.
