Before your surgery
Do not drink or eat anything after midnight.
You may wear street clothes to the hospital. Upon arrival you will be given a hospital gown to wear. Bring comfortable clothes to wear home, for example, large loose clothing to accommodate bulky dressings. If you are having foot surgery, wear shoes with flat heels. If you are having hand surgery, please wear a shirt with a large arm opening to accommodate a large hand dressing. If you have had previous hand surgery, please bring your sling if you have one. If you are having abdominal surgery, men should wear loose-fitting slacks or jogging pants and women should wear loose-fitting dresses. Do not wear jeans.
Do not wear make-up, fingernail polish or toenail polish.
Please do not chew gum or use life savers, cough drops, certs, etc. the morning of your surgery.
Only one visitor may stay with you.
Please leave your valuables (rings, watches, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, wigs, etc.) and money at home.
Please make arrangements to have someone available to drive you home. You will not be able to drive for 24 hours after your procedure.
Please do not wear contact lenses to the hospital. Please bring your glasses to sign papers.

You may park in the visitor parking area as directed by signs.
You will be discharged through the front lobby of the hospital.
Notify your physician of any changes in your physical condition (cold, fever greater than 99 degrees, etc.) If you develop a cold please call your doctor to reschedule your surgery before coming to the hospital.

Please bring your medicines with you the morning of your procedure and give them to the nurse. If you prefer, you may bring a complete list of your medications including the medication name, directions for use and dosage.
Please bathe on the morning of your procedure to decrease chances of post-procedure infection.
Remove any body piercing jewelry.
If you use hearing aids, please wear them when you come in.
You may brush your teeth the morning of your procedure, but do not swallow any water.
You may take any medicines your doctor has told you to take the morning of your procedure with a sip of water.
