Halifax Regional Health System believes that education plays a major role in both the prevention and healing of illnesses. Our educational efforts are directed toward our staff, our patients and residents, their families and the community.
Our physicians and staff take pride in keeping up with current best-practice trends and participate regularly in continuing education programs. Our staff members receive up-to-date training from our on-site health educators, attend conferences and educational programs, and complete yearly competency exams ensuring that they are well-versed and knowledgeable in all areas of their work.
Our staff is prepared to provide our patients, residents and families with a wide variety of educational materials (brochures, instructional handouts, videos and discussion) to help them understand their conditions and prepare for the future. Patients at Halifax Regional Hospital have access to The Patient Channel, a 24 hour television service providing information about a wide spectrum of care topics. Patients being discharged from the hospital are given a discharge packet, including information useful for continued recovery. An electronic version of the discharge orders is available upon request. Residents of our long-term care facilities and their families are encouraged to participate in quarterly care plan meetings to fully understand treatment plans.
