A heart knows when it’s getting good treatment, and Halifax Regional brings the best in heart health to southern Virginia. Our Center for Cardiovascular Services includes a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab and rehabilitation center, as well as radiology and respiratory therapy services.
Cardiac Catheterization Lab
Our cardiac catheterization lab serves patients needing cardiac and peripheral vascular services including:
- Diagnostic cardiac catheterization
- Balloon angioplasty
- Coronary stents (heart)
- Peripheral stents (legs and renal)
- Pacemaker implants
- ICD implants
- Intra-aortic balloon pump insertion
- Diagnostic peripheral studies
- IVC Filter insertions
Radiology services:
- Cardiac stress testing
- Cardiac nuclear medicine testing
- TEEs
- Echocardiograms
- Vascular ultrasound

Cardiopulmonary/Respiratory Therapy Services
The cardiopulmonary/respiratory department at Halifax Regional Hospital provides both inpatient and outpatient services for people with cardiac and respiratory problems, including:
- Routine respiratory therapy
- Arterial blood gases
- Arterial lines
- Cardiac stress testing
- Complete pulmonary function studies
- Electroencephalogram (EEGs)
- Electrocardiogram (EKGs)
- Holter monitoring
- Indirect calorimetry
- Pulmonary stress testing
- Swann ganz
- Ventilators
- Sleep studies
Respiratory therapists are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Diagnostic outpatient tests are scheduled and performed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center
The cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program at Halifax Regional Hospital benefits both heart and lung patients in their recovery and helps them achieve a healthier lifestyle. Open five days a week, our rehab gym includes exercise equipment designed especially for cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and a staff well-trained in its use. When your physician thinks you are ready for rehabilitation activities, he or she will work with the staff to develop an exercise and educational program based on your needs and medical condition.
Phase III Maintenance Program
The maintenance program is a supervised exercise program open to people with various types of health problems who have been referred by their doctor and pay a monthly fee. Our trained staff helps participants develop a personalized exercise program and are on-site to offer guidance. Participants may also attend structured classes at no extra cost.
