Halifax Regional Development Foundation

The mission of the Halifax Regional Development foundation is to acquire resources to enhance and enrich the services, programs and facilities of Halifax Regional Health System in order to assist the system in meeting its mission. The major objectives of the foundation are to:

  • Develop resources to assist in the funding of indigent patient care at Halifax Regional Health System.
  • Assist Halifax Regional Health System in providing the equipment and facilities necessary to assure excellent healthcare for its patients.
  • Provide stipends and scholarships to needy and deserving students who wish to pursue healthcare careers at Halifax Regional Health System.
  • Provide start up and ongoing operational support of health and wellness programs within the region.

The Halifax Regional development Foundation is committed to serving and helping fulfill the mission and guiding principles of Halifax Regional Health System by utilizing, safeguarding and enhancing the organization through sound financial practices.

Gifts will be used to support the Foundation’s mission. Donors may contribute to the general fund or may direct their gift to a specific department.

Halifax Regional Hospice

Hospice offers medical, emotional and spiritual care to those in the final phases of a terminal illness. Funds donated to hospice are used to provide excellent end-of-life care to patients and their families regardless of their ability to pay.

Project Prime

Project PRIME (Public Rally for Individual Medical Education) offers tuition assistance to people interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. Established in 1983 with contributions from residents and local businesses, Project PRIME awards funds to successful applicants wishing to become certified nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, radiology technicians, certified or registered respiratory therapists, laboratory technicians, nuclear medicine technicians, physical or occupational therapists and other healthcare positions. Funds may also be used for the further education of people already in the healthcare field of their choice. Since it was established, over $1 million, interest from the PRIME endowment, has been awarded.

The Dr. Jesse J. Bates Scholarship

Established in 2003, the Dr. Jesse J. Bates Scholarship was named to honor the late Dr. Jesse J. Bates. Funds from the Dr. Jesse J. Bates Scholarship are awarded to graduating high school seniors in the Halifax Regional Health System service area who are pursuing higher education in the healthcare field. The first recipients of the Dr. Jesse J. Bates Scholarship were named in the spring of 2004.

The Crowell Fund

Named in memory of long time Halifax Regional Health System board of directors member Thomas A. Crowell Jr., interest from the Crowell Fund is used to purchase materials for use in the T. A. Crowell Jr. Memorial Library, Halifax Regional Health System’s medical library.
