Financial Assistance

We want to reduce your financial worry as much as possible. Patient Financial Services representatives at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital can help you understand the billing and insurance process. They can also help you apply for financial assistance.

The Financial Assistance Program is based on the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital uses a sliding scale up to 225 percent of those guidelines. Click here to learn more about the program.

Assistance programs are available to help you pay your medical bill. If you meet federal and state guidelines, you may be eligible for programs such as Medicaid, SLH, Social Security Administration (SSA) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI.) Contact a patient financial services representative at 434.517.3854 today.

If you need financial assistance, click here to print a copy of Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital’s financial statement form. Be sure to complete the form in full and sign and date it. You will need to show proof of income from the month of service and two months prior.

Uninsured Patient Discount Program (effective July 1, 2011)

If you are not covered by any healthcare insurance plan and receive services from Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, you may qualify for the hospital's Uninsured Patient Discount Program. You may be asked to sign a statement of no insurance and will receive a 32 percent discount of total charges. You or your guarantor will be responsible for paying the remaining balance in full. If you qualify for other discounts available through the Financial Assistance Program, this discount does not apply.


Discounts should automatically be credited to self-pay accounts. If you are unsure the discount has been applied please feel free to call us. If your insurance denies total charges as a "non-covered service," the service is considered a self-pay account and is eligible for the 32 percent discount from total charges.
